The essence of Business Analytics (BA) is deriving optimized predictions and decisions from the analysis of “Big Data”. This analysis heavily relies on a variety of mathematical and statistical tools such as Optimization, Operations Research, Data Mining, Regression Analysis, Time Series, and Predictive Modelling.
BA has been identified by the Singapore government as one of the key areas for manpower development at tertiary educational institutions. BA fits very well into the Mathematical Sciences programme since most of the underlying methods are of mathematical nature.
The new track in BA is interdisciplinary and includes courses from Nanyang Business School and the School of Computer Engineering. As BA is widely used by industry, finance, and government intuitions in Singapore, the new track will open up further internship and career opportunities for students of Mathematical Sciences.
