Assistant Professor Robin Chi has succeeded in a fundamental breakthrough concerning chemical activation of the inert beta-sp3-carbon of saturate ester as nucleophilic carbon. In addition to scientific values, this new activation modes will significantly shorten the synthetic/manufacturing routes of pharmaceuticals, bioactive compounds, and fine chemicals.
