Teo Kai Yang, Mathematics, Intake 2008

M4 Kai Yang.jpgBeing part of the Volleyball team in Temasek Junior College was probably the integral part of my JC life. Not only did I get to pick up a new game, but to be trained by our talented coach and subsequently heading the team as Captain during JC year 2 to clinch 1st Runner-up was an unforgettable experience. I also had the honour to lead a team of 15 students for Taiwan Immersion Programme in 2004. Being the male captain, I planned outings for our Taiwan counterparts and made sure that they have experienced Singapore in its fullest. My stay in Taiwan, Tai Pei where I made a whole lot of friends and experienced the life of a typical Taiwanese student was a memory that is irreplaceable. Closer to home, I took responsibility in the class and made sure that everything is running smoothly during my 2 year stint as the class representative. I value the virtue of giving back, which is best displayed by going back to my secondary school to impart my knowledge as a student helper in Taekwondo. Science has always been my passion, and it is my driving force that compelled me to join the science society as a group member. Obtaining Academic Excellence Award is the best gift that the school had given me as my last memento of the TJC.

Coming to NTU is the beginning of another chapter of my life. I am currently residing in Hall 6 and am proud to be a member of the JCRC. Being a member of the dance team in Hall, I find nothing more enjoyable than to train hard with everyone and performed to our capacity in our performance during Hall Closing. I really enjoyed the time being a pageant contestant in Hall 6 as well in SPMS. I am currently participating actively in Salsa and Weiqi Society.

All of these could not be achieved if not for the understanding and grace that the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) had given to us students. Without dedicated professors who are willing to help me tide through difficulties during my course of studies and a conducive environment for studying, I would not be able to balance between studies and play with such results. This is a strength that draws me to SPMS. The flexibility of planning my course also allows me to plan ahead and spend my time in school to its fullest. Teaching is also at a comfortable pace. In short, the passionate professors, the student-oriented service that you feel, and the world-class facilities are what made me choose SPMS to be my school of study for the next few years.
