Tan Shi Min

Tan Shi Min, Chemistry, Intake 2008

I took a rather unusual subject combination of Chemistry, Maths, Biology and French when I was in JC. Because of my interest in languages, I joined the French Connection club and was the treasurer of the French Connection. I also earned the DALF C2 certification for French, awarded by France’s Ministry of Education. Apart from that, I was also in the school’s Seasports Club, where I got personal 1 and 2 star certifications for kayaking. I also participated actively in community service with initiatives such as kayaking lessons for MINDS students and Eldercare with Youth Challenge. Currently, I am in NTU’s Rotaract Club, which has been an interesting experience. Outside of school, I have also started to learn Japanese at the Japanese Cultural Society, and have earned a JLPT level 4.

As with all changes in schools, I find that life in NTU is certainly different from any of my past school environments. The courses are interesting and I have learned a lot since starting school here. I chose SPMS as I felt that there was a concerted effort towards teaching well and encouraging our interests. I was also awarded the Nanyang Scholarship, which unlike many other university scholarships, has a leadership programme mapped out and other activities planned for us.
