1. How does the current system work? Does it vary across Courses/faculties? This classification is based on a student's performance in various Courses, including Projects, for the whole of course duration. This system is followed through all faculties. For Courses, the weightage of continual assessment (class participation, class quizzes etc) and semester examination varies. Some schools lay more stress on examination compared to continual assessment while some have a more balanced approach. |

| 2. What aspects of the system are students unhappy about, and why?
The students are unsure about the Class of Honours they are heading for exactly. Hence there is not much scope to learn from mistakes. Also students are unable to provide a proper average score to overseas universities when applying for post-graduate courses as most of these Universities ask for a score on the lines of GPA. |

3. When will the new system be implemented? The University administration will implement the new and "more transparent" Honors classification system from Academic Year 2005 onwards. |

| 6. How is the Grade point calculated ?
The Year Grade Point Average (YGPA) represents the grade average of all Courses (including failed Courses) attempted by a student in any year. The computation of YGPA is as follows: |

The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) represents the grade average of all Courses (including failed Courses) attempted by a student. The computation of CGPA is as follows: |

| 8. What if a student gets an 'F' grade in any Course?
If a student gets an 'F' grade in a Course, and a new grade attained for the subsequent repeat, both will be reflected in the transcript and both grades will be counted in the computation of YGPA and CGPA. |

| 9. Can the students re-attempt any Course to improve the grade point in that Course? Students are not allowed to repeat any Courses taken except those with 'F' grade. |

| 10. What are the requirements to be a Graduate? Both of these conditions must be met: Successful completion of the prescribed academic unit requirement as set out by the course curriculum and a minimum CGPA of 2.00 at the end of the final semester of study. |

| 11. What happens if any Student has poor performance in any semester? Any Student with poor standing will be subjected to the following performance review: Academic Warning – if the CGPA falls below 2.00 for any given semester; Academic Probation – if the CGPA falls below 2.00 for the following semester; Academic Termination – if the CGPA falls below 2.00 for the 3rd consecutive semester, or at the end of the final semester of study. A letter of termination will be issued. |

| 12. What is the minimum grade point needed to be allowed to Overload? A minimum CGPA of 2.0 must be maintained at the end of each semester to qualify for the overloading of Courses. |

| 13. What is the criterion to get through the Chair's List? The Chair's list will be compiled on a yearly basis. The top 5% of the cohort, Course to attaining a minimum YGPA of 4.50, are eligible for the Chair's list. |

| 14. What is the minimum CGPA required to sustain ABP (Accelerated Bachelor's Programme)? Students enrolled in the ABP must maintain a minimum CGPA of 4.00 in order to remain in the Programme. |

| 15. How are students who go on Exchange Programs credited? Credits for Courses taken from approved student exchange programmers will be excluded from the CGPA computation. But they will be counted toward the academic unit requirement for graduation, and reflected in the transcript. |

| 16. Is there any special requirement for getting a First Class Honours Degree? For the 4-year B.S. course, a min CGPA of 4.50 plus at least an 'A-' grade for the Final Year Project (FYP), are required for the award of a First Class Honours degree. |
