Q1. When should I take leave from my work to go for a medical check-up?
You only need to go for your medical check-up after you have reported and registered successfully at the Graduate Studies Office on the date of matriculation which is indicated on your offer for admission letter.
Q2. When should I come to NTU as I need to purchase my air ticket to Singapore?
Please note the date of registration at NTU as indicated on the offer for admission letter and you may wish to plan your arrival date accordingly.
It is important that you secure your accommodation with the International Student Centre before you come to the University so that you are able to check into your room in the hostel when you arrive. Please email the International Student Centre at isc@ntu.edu.sg

The graduate accommodation is applicable to full-time International Students only. Once you are in Singapore and after registration, it is advisable to open a bank account in Singapore to deposit your money that you have brought for the necessary expenses.
Q5. How do I apply for a Student’s Pass?
The University will assist successful international applicants in their applications for the Student's Pass. The costs, if any, connected with such application will be borne by the student.

Q6. Do I need to apply for a visa when I travel to Singapore for admission to NTU?
You do not need to apply for visa separately when you are coming to NTU. Once you have submitted your application for your student's pass to the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoint Authority (ICA) and when it is approved by ICA, you will receive an In-principle Approval letter for your student pass through postal mail. You are required to bring along and present this letter as well as your passport to the Immigration at the Singapore airport.

Q7. I have been informed that an offer of admission letter has been sent to me but it has been a long time and I have yet to receive it. I am very anxious and do not know whether this is normal.
The hardcopy has been sent to you by the Graduate Studies Office via postal mail. If you have yet to receive the letter via postal mail, we can only assume that it may be either delayed or lost during the postal transmission. Therefore, you can contact the School or the Graduate Studies Office, we will be pleased to scan and email you another copy. You can print this scanned copy for reference and bring it along to NTU. This copy is exactly the same as the original document which has been posted to you.
Q8. There is an item, a letter from employer stating that the candidate is no longer under any contract or obligation. Now, I have always been studying all my life and have never held any job so I would not be able to show such a letter. What should I do in this case?
The " letter from employer stating the last day of your service" which is mentioned in the offer letter is only applicable to you if you are currently working in your home country and you need to resign from the company in order to pursue your higher degree programme at NTU.
Q9. I am a recipient of a research scholarship. I saw in the letter of offer that I need to produce the payment receipt of my fees during matriculation. What should I do?
As per the research scholarship letter, the term of award is listed in details in the letter. Other fees are still applicable for payment by students such as below :
- Matriculation fee
- Student Matriculation Card fee
- Group Hospitalization and Surgical Insurance Scheme
Students have to make payment for these fees at the Office of Finance at Level 3, Student Services Centre and obtain the receipt before proceeding to matriculation venue as stated in the offer of admission letter. This receipt has to be produced during the matriculation.

Q11. I would like to know if you have got any advice on the reference books I should bring with me when I come to NTU?
As a PhD student in SPMS, you are required to do six graduate Courses whereas an MSc student, you are required to do three graduate Courses.
Please access the Graduate Courses Information webpage for the Course information and recommended texts for the courses. If a text is not stated, it is because the lecturer does not or has not recommended one.
The NTU libraries have copies of most of the booktitles. The School will leave it to the students to judge whether buying any books is necessary or not.
