Assistant Professor Yu Ting, from SPMS, has won the Young Scientist Award in the category of Physical, Information and Engineering Sciences for his research on metal oxide nanostructures and graphene. The Young Scientist Award is presented to researchers aged 35 and below who are actively engaged in R&D in Singapore, and who have shown great potential to be world-class researchers in their fields of expertise.

Asst Prof Yu has successfully developed a method to synthesize metal oxide nanostructures which is substrate-friendly, low-cost and applicable on a large scale. His method is now widely used by other researchers working in the field. Over the past three years, Asst Prof Yu has received almost S$3.5 million worth of research grants. In 2008, his team  won the Nanyang Award for Research and Innovation, a prestigious NTU award presented in recognition of outstanding research achievements.

Asst Prof Yu and two other Young Scientist Award recipients will each receive a trophy, a certificate of commendation and a prize of S$10,000 from Minister for Trade and Industry Mr Lim Hng Kiang at the President’s Science and Technology Awards Dinner held at the Istana on 28 Sep 2009.
