Minor In Mathematics 

Requirements for the Minor:

Students are required to fulfill at least 15 AU from MAS/MTH/MH courses (excluding MAS110/MTH110/MH1400, MAS216, MAS491/MTH491/MH4900, MAS492/MTH492/MH4901, MAS8xx/MH8xxx, and MAS9xx/MTH9xx/MH9xxx), of which at least 6 AU should be MAS2xx/3xx/4xx or MTH2xx/3xx/4xx or MH2xxx/3xxx/4xxx.

 

Recommended Combination of Courses for the Minor:

A. For students who do not have calculus and/or linear algebra in the curriculum of their major, the following combination is highly recommended:

  • 2 courses of calculus ({MAS112/MTH112/MH1100 & MAS113/MTH113/MH1101} or {MAS181/MH1800 & MAS182/MH1801})
  • 1 course of linear algebra (MAS114/MTH114/MH1200 or MAS183/MH2800)
  • 2 courses from any MAS2xx/3xx/4xx or MTH2xx/3xx/4xx or MH2xxx/3xxx/4xxx courses (excluding MAS216, MAS491/MTH491/MH4900, and MAS492/MTH492/MH4901).

B. For students whose major curriculum already includes calculus and/or linear algebra similar to MAS112/113/114 or MTH112/MTH113/MTH114 or MH1100/MH1101/MH1200 or MAS181/182/183 or MH1800/MH1801/MH2800, (e.g., some engineering programmes), it is recommended that they choose courses other than MAS112/113/114 or MTH112/MTH113/MTH114 or MH1100/MH1101/MH1200 and MAS181/182/183 for the fulfillment of the minor requirements. C. Only for students in the C N Yang Scholars programme:

- The following courses do not count towards a minor in Mathematics: MAS112, MAS113, MAS114, MAS211, MAS212, MAS213  or MTH112, MTH113, MTH114, MTH115, MTH211 or MH1100, MH1101, MH1200, MH1201, MH2100.

- The requirement of at least 6 AU from MAS2xx/MAS3xx/MAS4xx is dropped.

D. The following courses may be counted towards a minor in Mathematics if these are read as UE: MATH1A/CY1201, MATH1B/CY1202, MATH1C/CY1203.
