The general formal requirements concerning admission for the MSc and PhD programs at NTU can be found at the NTU Website Degree by Research.
Applicants without a Bachelor degree in Mathematics can be considered for admission if they have obtained a Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a related area, e.g. Computer Engineering or Natural Sciences, and have sufficient mathematical background. In addition to the general documents required (see Application Requirements), these students must submit the following documents together with their application.
1. Complete list of courses taken in Mathematics and related areas with detailed description of the course contents.
2. List of any further material relevant for the mathematical background, e.g. an annotated list of books on Mathematics used for self-study.
3. Informal essay describing their motivation to launch into graduate studies in Mathematical Sciences.
The MSc and PhD program in Mathematical Sciences each consist of both a coursework and research component. The coursework has to be completed in the first year of graduate study. The coursework requirements are specified in detail below. Students participating in the PhD program have to pass a PhD candidacy exam after the completion of the coursework component. For both the MSc and PhD program, the requirements for the research component include the completion of a thesis on original research in Mathematical Sciences.
Requirements for MSc degree in Mathematical Sciences:
Choose one CORE course MAS71x
Choose one SUPERVISED RESEARCH Course MPS78x
Choose one out of TOPIC courses MAS72x (or MAS74x) and SEMINAR courses MAS79x
The choice of the Courses must be approved by the Director of Graduate Studies in the Division.
Requirements for PhD degree in Mathematical Sciences:
