Professor Isao Shimidzu, distinguished guests from Waseda, colleagues and friends, ladies and gentlemen
Good Morning and on behalf of the NTU, I warmly welcome you to the NTU-Waseda 1-day joint symposium. The division of Chemistry and biological Chemistry is delighted to host you and this symposium.
The aim of this 1-day symposium is to promote collaboration and interaction between researchers and students from both institutions who work in the area of chemistry and lifesciences.
This is an exciting time for Chemistry and lifescience researchers in Singapore. Our government is investing more than $12 billion in research over 5 years. NTU has also invested heavily in the building of a world class chemistry department. Currently, we have one of the best Chemistry buildings in the world, build with the best safety feature as well as for the comfort of researchers. With first class infrastructure and recruiting the best faculty and students from all over the world, we look forward to a very bright future ahead and hopefully, to contribute and make an impact to the international chemistry community. We are also thankful to professors Narasaka, Yamane and Chiba (alumni from Waseda) for kindly agreed to join us.
Once again, I welcome you to our beautiful garden campus and city-state of Singapore. To our guests from Waseda, I hope you can also find time to venture into the streets of Singapore and experience this vibrant city of many cultures. I wish all of you a fruitful and enjoyable stay in Singapore.
Thank you.
